The essence of sports arbitrage betting lies in how effectively you place and manage your bets. Follow these essential steps to ensure you never miss an opportunity:

1. Double-Check the Numbers
   Always use an odds calculator to confirm all outcomes are covered, and act quickly to avoid odds shifts that could spoil an arbitrage opportunity. A simple check I perform before placing either bet is verifying that the payouts (stake + winnings) for both bets are the same or very close (within a $1-3 difference). This ensures that everything is correct. If the payouts differ, something may have gone wrong—such as a last-minute line change or an incorrect bet amount.

2. Stick to Clean, Even Numbers for Your Bets

   When placing arbitrage bets, avoid using odd or specific amounts like $588.65. Instead, use clean, round numbers like $590 or $585. Here’s why: regular bettors typically don’t place bets with exact decimal amounts, and bookmakers are trained to notice unusual betting patterns. Betting in cents or non-rounded amounts can raise red flags, making your account more likely to be scrutinized or even limited. By sticking to even numbers, you blend in with regular bettors and minimize the risk of drawing unwanted attention from bookmakers.

3. Diversify Your Bookmakers for Better Opportunities
   Open accounts with multiple bookmakers to access more profitable arbitrage opportunities. Start with smaller arbs to get familiar with the bookmakers. It’s important to know which books allow you to cash out bets because if the odds shift last minute before placing the second bet, you can cash out the first one without a loss. This gives you more flexibility and security when placing arbs.

4. Prioritize Bets Strategically
   When betting live, place the bet with the higher risk of shifting odds first. Speed is key, but precision matters. If you notice you’re consistently winning at a specific bookmaker, try placing bets that favor the underdog or non-favorite team to balance your wins. If necessary, take a break from that bookmaker to maintain a good standing, as arbitrage is about longevity and maintaining profitable relationships with bookmakers.

5. Bankroll Management: Track Your Bets
   Track all your bets to manage your bankroll effectively. With funds spread across multiple bookmakers and multiple bets placed daily, it’s easy to lose track if they’re not properly recorded.
